Blog Two.
This week in the lecture and workshop we focused on blogs and what needs to be included in them to achieve a greater grade. Blogs can be used for reflecting on previous experiences in or out of the classroom, they can help you to discuss what happened and how you can reflect on it and make it better next time. I have never used a blog before but I have used reflective journals to writing down the situation and what can be done to make the class more beneficial to the students. I enjoy being able to reflect back on topics as it allows me to learn from any mistakes that were made.
In the book Meaningful Learning with Technology its states that Blogs help people to connect and communicate with others that share the same interests. I believe that this is so true and it is what we will be doing throughout this semester as each student will write a blog about their struggles and triumphants while doing each assignment. I bet that if we read each others blog we will all see that we have shared the same problems in this unit and overcome them by researching and learning new ways to use technology.
This week we also discussed the rubric that will be used when we are reviewing someone else’s website and what that person will be looking at when they are viewing our own. I thought it was strange at first to see that the marker should start with the criteria for a high distinction and work backwards to the fail criteria but now I see it I can understand why. Working from the higher grade to the lowest will allow you to see what work the person has done compared to what they haven't.
Out of class I began to work on my assignment 1B about social networking. I found it very interesting because I choose to use Twitter which is something I have heard so much about but never used. I found it difficult to begin with as I had to learn myself while writing clear instructions about how to create an account but as I began to look around the website I realised how interesting and different it was to other social networking sites. After writing the instructions out on a word document I had to turn it into a PDF file so I could put it onto the website for others to view. So I went onto Murdoch website and found the companion page for this assignment, there I found a video that had been posted about turning word documents into a PDF. I was surprised how easy it really was and now I know how to use it for future purposes.
I'm beginning to feel really positive this week about my ideas for this assignment and I hope that I will be pleased with the final result.
